Good-Bye

Summer floats away in the distance
as our romance slowly fizzles
to be replaced by walls, gates, barriers.

We know each other no longer.

We are two strangers
sitting in the shadow of the moon,
sharing a moment
yet not sharing anything at all.

We are both enwrapped in our own worlds
and cannot pierce through each others armor
which leaves us feeling cold,

like the changing weather
that banishes birds to the south,
causes leaves to color, fall, and crumble

and causes our love to die.

I can identify with the feelings in this verse...It can also be a very painful feeling i admit, especially the carefully constructed walls, gates and barriers which appear ..
i liked reading this!

"sharing a moment
yet not sharing anything at all." Great line. That sums it up so well!

"We are both enwrapped in our own worlds
and cannot pierce through each others armor
which leaves us feeling cold." Great metahor!

Also, I have linked to you on my site. I hope others enjoy your unique style as much as I do!

Stop by and say hi again, whenever you have the chance.

Bye!

Transitions are painful, especially when the season mirrors your loss

"and causes your love to die."

I like a variety of emotions in poetry. Something cheery would be nice.

Swap the cold with warmth, 'cause its winter when you cherish the warmth of love and wish for the company of your loved ones!

weather and love go so beautifully together, don't they...especially in how they cut things/times/memories/phases off..

"i never dreamed you'd leave in summer...but that is when you started to be cold..."

Thank you for that.

As per your request, I'll explain my above comment:

It just hits close to home. I'm a stranger to someone who should be very close to me, and she is a stranger to me. Though we never meant to end up this way, here we are. Thank you for gathering the words I was searching for.

This poem reminds me of this Elton John poem/song

Pull my coat around me
Feel the cold wind haunt me
Streets are empty just like me
The murmur of an echo
Seems to come from every window
Is loneliness the same as being free

I guess I must have been dreaming
To think that I believed in you at all
Now I just can't fight it
As the shadow of the night begins to fall

Love's got a lot to answer for
Oh I just can't sleep with this feeling anymore
Let the cold night air cool the heat
Of two hearts gone to war
For no matter who wins, in the end
Love's got a lot to answer for

All I need is darkness
The best of all protection
Freedom's like the stars in the sky
Alone and cold and burning
Each one keeps it's distance
If only we were stars, you and I
